When nature gives you apples, make apple cider!

Apple trees that aren't pruned regularly and intensively managed tend to have alternating years of heavy production.  Because of a late spring freeze in 2012 in central Iowa, 2013 and 2015 have been the years with the big apple crop - especially with the rains of 2015.

A group of six students from the Ballard and Madrid area decided to make cider and document the steps invovled.  This portion of the website shows their actions in creating 44 gallons of apple cider on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015.
