Vegetables for Iowa

There are a lot of different vegetabels that well suited to grow in Iowa. There are additional factors like what people will eat, value of the produce, ease of picking and shelf life of the product. We are still a learning in progress project, but we have learned a number lessons.

1. There are different interests in food with different groups or areas. i.e. hot peppers are very popular in some areas with some people and not in other areas.

2.. Some vegetables like brussel sprouts, beets, and okra are easily grown, but not real popular.

3. Vegetables with short storage spans like lettuce and peas are not well suited unless directly linked to a local food pantry where there is only a few hours between picking and end user.
